Staff Coaches

Rob Hare

Rob studied at Bentley University and is a former player for the New York Junior Islanders, he went on to lead a career that includes twenty-plus years of coaching experience.  His background includes coaching roles with organizations such as the Long Island Gulls AAA Mites through Midget level teams, the Laura Stamm International Skating program, and the Paul Vincent’s Dynamic Skating program.  Along with assisting the development of Northeast Elite Hockey and the Rob Barletta Hockey School, Robert is also the owner of Long Island’s premier Sports Hub, which includes turf fields, a basketball court and an ice rink.

Kevin Goumas

We are excited to have Kevin join the Sports Hub and help us continue to build our hockey program. He is a recently retired professional hockey player, after spending four years playing Division I hockey at the University of New Hampshire. He signed with the Philadelphia Flyers and spent two years in the American Hockey League before ending his career in Sweden. When a knee injury cut his career short, he found a passion for working with and coaching kids on skating, skill development, stick handling, shooting and an emphasis on the little things needed to develop and progress their hockey careers.

Bret Erster

Bret played baseball at Queens College while studying economics. During his baseball career he was selected to play in the NY State all-star game and captained the 1998 campaign that ended with an NCAA Super Regional appearance. Bret started his amateur hockey career with the Long Island Gulls in 1982. He later played in the Empire State Games and at the Quebec International Pee-wee Tournament. He ended his amateur playing career playing three years for the New York Apple Core Junior team, appearing in three National Championships. Bret was captain of the 1996 Apple Core team that won the National Championship. Bret has coached youth hockey for the past seven years and currently coaches several Long Island Gulls teams. In addition, he serves as the SPORTS HUB's hockey director and leads the Long Island Gladiators Spring Hockey program.

Mike Lang

Since graduating from St. Johns University in 1992 Michael has worked in youth hockey, a career spanning more than 20 years. He has coached highly ranked teams for The Long Island Gulls, P.A.L.
